Bio
Coach's Comments: Iva is an exciting player who will add a dominant presence to our offense and defense causing many problems for opponents with her powerful attack and all-around abilities. She has played at a high level in one of the best volleyball programs in Bulgaria and on the Bulgarian national team and we look for her to bring that experience and grow in the college game here at Cowley.
2019: played in 109 sets...recorded 475 kills, a .350 hitting %, 99 digs, 26 blocks, and 46 aces...NJCAA First Team All-American, First Team All-District, KJCCC First Team All-Conference, KJCCC Offensive Player of the Week (three times), Triton Invitational Tournament All-Tournament Team, Cowley College Invitational All-Tournament Team...recorded the seventh most kills in a season in Cowley history (475) and recorded the tenth best hitting percentage in a season in Cowley history (.350).
Before Cowley: Halacheva prepped at Vasil Levski in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. In playing volleyball, she played for VC Maritza Plovdiv, since 2010, which is considered to be one of the top three volleyball programs in Bulgaria. She led her team to first place in the Bulgarian Cup, first place in the Bulgarian Women's Championship, and first place in the Youth Girls U17 of Bulgaria in 2014. In 2015, she led her team to a first place finish in the Bulgarian Women's Championship, second place in the Bulgarian Cup and winner of the Bulgarian Super Cup. In 2017, she led her team to first place in Youth Girls U17 of Bulgaria. In personal awards, she was named best spiker for U13 and U15 twice, named captain of the team from 2011 to present, named MVP of U17 for the team in 2016-17 season and MVP of the U19 tournament. Since 2012, Halacheva has also served as a member of the Bulgarian National Team. In 2014, she led her team to the U15 Volleyball Balkan Championship in Ivanjica. In 2016, she led her team to the U17 Volleyball Balkan Championship in Montenegro, and in 2017 she led her team to the U18 European Qualification in Sofia, U18 Volleyball European championship in Arnhem, and the U20 World Qualification in Wieliczka while being two years younger than the level played.

Cowley College sophomore Iva Halacheva has added yet another award for her stellar 2020-21 season earning the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Two Year College Second Team All-American award.
Cowley College volleyball’s Iva Halacheva has been named a First Team All-American by the NJCAA. The selection brings Cowley’s total All-American award count to 37 honors spread across 28 players. It marks the 17th straight season with an All-American selection.
Headlined by Setter and Freshman of the Year honors for Gracie Story, the Cowley College volleyball team saw three members earn Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference regular season honors and four players named All-District, as announced on Wednesday.
In what was an up and down season for the Cowley College volleyball team, the Lady Tigers had their season come to an end with a 13-25, 25-22, 26-28, 23-25 loss to Neosho County in the first round of the District B Tournament played Friday in Highland, KS.
Playing its final regular season match Monday inside W.S. Scott Auditorium, the Cowley College volleyball team gave No. 4-ranked Johnson County all they could handle in a 19-25, 25-17, 25-21, 22-25, 13-15 home loss.
Playing on the road at last-place Labette Community College on Thursday, the Cowley College volleyball team found the competition to be a little harder than they anticipated in the 23-25, 25-13, 25-18, 25-22 win.
The Cowley College volleyball team defeated Coffeyville Community College and Metropolitan Community College for the second time this season Monday in Coffeyville. The Lady Tigers opened with a 25-22, 17-25, 25-16, 25-29 win over Coffeyville before defeating Metropolitan 25-12, 25-18, 25-19.
The Cowley College volleyball team had its four-match winning streak come to an end with a gut-wrenching 17-25, 30-28, 25-22, 24-26, 13-15 loss to No. 12-ranked Highland Community College Thursday inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.

Entering the program’s 44th season for the Cowley College volleyball program, high expectations are in store for the program. The team is coming off of a 2019 season that saw them finish with a record of 31-6 overall and a 7-3 record in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division. The team also stayed in the top 10 in the NJCAA national rankings most of the season and rose as high as number four in the national rankings for a pair of weeks.
