With Cowley College sophomore Esteban Boisseau capping an incredible sophomore campaign with an individual national title in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Lady Tiger freshmen pole vaulters Ke’Mauria Burnham and Aaliyah Treat garnering All-American honors, the Cowley men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams battled the wind and heat to place in the top 20 of the NJCAA Division 1 Outdoor Track and Field Championships held Thursday through Saturday in Hobbs, New Mexico.
With the opportunity to host the NJCAA Region VI Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday through Saturday at the Mark A. Phillips’ Athletic Complex, the Cowley College men’s and women’s track and field teams placed second in the conference. The Lady Tigers finished fifth in the region, while the Tiger men placed sixth.
Having battled the elements nearly every meet this spring, the Cowley College men’s and women’s track and field teams enjoyed a good day weather-wise while taking part in the Emporia State University Relays. The Tigers set several personal bests and had a new national qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles from Zuzana Bokova.
Hosting the Mark A. At the Phillips Tiger Classic on Saturday in Arkansas City, the nationally ranked Cowley College men’s and women’s track and field teams honored the late coach's memory by achieving 7 national qualifiers and 10 heat wins.
Taking split squads to compete on Friday and Saturday at Missouri Southern University and Northwest Missouri State, the nationally ranked Cowley College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams achieved five national qualifying performances and heat wins.
Getting numerous national qualifying performances and heat wins on Friday and Saturday, the Cowley College men’s and women’s track and field teams did well while having the majority of its athletes take part in the Wilson Invite at Wichita State University, and a handful of others competed at the Washburn University Open and Multis in Topeka, KS.
Opening the indoor season at the Washburn University Rust Buster on Friday, January 16, the Cowley College men’s and women’s track and field teams set the tone for what they are hoping will be a successful indoor campaign.
