Cowley track and field teams take advantage of good weather at ESU Relays
Having battled the elements nearly every meet this spring, the Cowley College men’s and women’s track and field teams enjoyed a good day weather-wise while taking part in the Emporia State University Relays. The Tigers set several personal bests and had a new national qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles from Zuzana Bokova.
The Emporia State men placed first at the meet, while the Oklahoma Baptist University women were tops out of 16 teams on the women's side.
The Tiger men were led by Quintin Richardson, who had a personal best in the high jump after being a bit banged up.
"That was a very impressive day for Quintin," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "That mark pushed him up to No. 5 in the nation."
Rieth took about half of his athletes to compete at ESU and was pleased with the results.
"It was a pretty solid day for most of the people who competed," Rieth said. "We have a few athletes that are a little banged up at the moment, so allowing them some time to get recovered and rested up for championship season was the priority."
Cowley will compete at Fort Hays State University on Thursday before preparing to host the Region VI/Jayhawk Conference Championships April 30-May 2 at the Mark A. Phillips Track and Field Complex.
