With the Cowley College men being the defending national champions and the Lady Tigers having captured the 2020 national title, expectations were high for the teams entering the NJCAA Division II Cross Country Nationals held Saturday in Tallahassee, FL. The Tiger cross country teams ran hard but did not get the finishes they hoped for, as both squads placed sixth nationally.
Putting together some of its best performances of the season, the NJCAA Division II No. 4-ranked Cowley College men’s and women’s cross country teams each captured Region VI titles Friday in Hutchinson. The Lady Tigers also ran their streak of conference titles to six in a row, while the Tiger men placed second in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division to Butler Community College.
Placing four runners in the top eight at the Ollie Isom Invite held Friday in El Dorado, the No. 4-ranked Cowley College men’s cross country team ran past the competition and placed first out of seven schools. The No. 4-ranked Lady Tigers did not run a full squad but still managed some solid performances.
With 163 men and 113 women participating in the Missouri Southern Stampede, the Cowley College men’s cross country team placed second out of 16 teams, and the Lady Tigers placed seventh Saturday in Joplin, MO.
Opening the season Thursday in Hutchinson, KS, the NJCAA Division II defending champion Cowley College men placed third while the Lady Tigers placed eighth at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic.
