Tigers achieve three new national qualifying marks at Last Chance Meet
With the national championships beginning later this week in Hobbs, New Mexico, the nationally ranked Cowley College men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams got in a final tune-up while competing at the Wichita State University Last Chance Meet on Friday.
The Lady Tigers were led by Jessi McDowell, who hit the national qualifying mark in the discus, and Katie Cook in the hammer.
Joshua (Kais) Patton was the top placer for the Tiger men, finishing second in the high jump with a national qualifying mark of 52-0 ½.
"This meet was a good opportunity to get several of the athletes that were on the fence of qualifying another crack at doing so," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said.
The Cowley men's and women's national qualifiers will compete at the NJCAA Division 1 National Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 14-16. New Mexico Junior College hosts the national championships.
