Yet to run a full squad this season, the nationally ranked Cowley College women's cross country team had three runners compete on Saturday at the 34th annual Greeno/Dirksen Invitational held at the Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln, NE.
The University of Nebraska placed first in the women's meet, while Iowa State University finished second. Third place Northern Colorado had the top finisher in the 5,000-meter race as Regina Mpigachai placed first with a time of 17:00.93.
With nearly 250 runners at the meet, Cowley was paced by freshman Lili-Rose Breheret's time of 21:13.31 in the 5K race. Fellow Lady Tiger Savannah Fischer was just behind Breheret with a time of 21:18.15, while freshman Pauline Althoff rounded out the Cowley runners with a time of 22:39.35.
"The meet was a learning experience for our ladies," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "The times don't necessarily tell the whole story because I liked the effort."
Cowley expects to have five runners compete at the Chile Pepper Invite held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Fayetteville, AR.
"We have got a long way to go, but it will be good for the ladies to compete and learn how to navigate a big race," Rieth said.

Lili-Rose Breheret, 21:13.31, 147th; Savannah Fischer, 21:18.15, 152nd; Pauline Althoff, 22:39.35, 199th.
