Mossburg among athletes to receive conference honors
Leading top 10 teams to unbeaten weeks last week, Johnson County Community College players Ava Esser and Campbell Chabot, along with Cowley College defensive specialist Tessa Mossburg have been named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 2 Volleyball Players of the Week for week seven.
Ava Esser (Johnson County) - KJCCC D2 Volleyball Player of the Week
Freshman outside/right-side hitter Ava Esser recorded back-to-back double-doubles in kills and digs to help power the Cavaliers to a pair of conference sweeps last week. Over the two victories, Esser hit .455 with 24 kills, averaging 4.17 per set, along with 21 digs and 11 blocks. In a 3-0 home victory against Coffeyville, Esser finished with 14 kills, a .458 kill percentage, and 11 digs. Esser nearly posted a triple-double, finishing with seven blocks. On Friday night in another 3-0 home win over Highland, Esser's line was 11 kills, a .450 kill percentage, 10 digs, and four blocks.
Campbell Chabot (Johnson County) – KJCCC D2 Volleyball Setter of the Week
Freshman setter Campbell Chabot fueled the Cavaliers' attack last week, dishing out 71 assists to help lead JCCCC to a pair of conference sweeps. In a 3-0 win over Coffeyville last Wednesday, Chabot recorded 36 assists, eight digs, and five aces. Two days later, Chabot posted 35 assists and seven digs in a sweep over Highland. Chabot currently leads the conference with 701 total assists.
Tessa Mossburg (Cowley) – KJCCC D2 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Mossburg averaged an impressive 5.44 digs per set on the week as top-ranked Cowley went 3-0 with three sweeps last week. The freshman averaged 7.67 digs per set against a strong Northeast Community College, finishing with a season-high 23 digs against the Hawks. Mossburg also had a perfect serve-receive percentage in 41 attempts, helping anchor the Tiger back line throughout the week.
