The nationally ranked Cowley College volleyball team has signed Lucrezia "Lu" Ceroni from Pescara, Italy, to begin her college career in the fall of 2023.
Ceroni, a 5-foot-9 middle hitter, prepped at Liceo Scientifico Maior and Liceo Leonardo Da Vinci in Pescara, Italy. She began playing volleyball in 2011 at Antoniana Volley, where she remained until the 2018-19 season. During this period, she served as team captain, won the regional finals four times in a row, and went to the national tournament. Her team won the "Trofeo Delle Province" in 2018.
Following her time with Antoniana Volley, Ceroni then moved for three years to Volley Pescara. Her team won the championship and moved up to the B2 category, where they excelled on the court. In 2019, her team also won the "Trofeo Delle Regioni" and the championship. In 2022, Ceroni joined the Ceteas Volley Montesilvano program. Currently, her team is first in the standings in Italy.
"Lu is an outstanding player who will add athleticism, court awareness, court vision, and timing to our front row offense and defense." Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "She is an aggressive middle who can attack opponents with a variety of sets and angles, plus she puts up a strong block that will cause problems for our opponents. Her experience playing in the competitive volleyball programs in Italy will be invaluable as she looks to transition to the college game and our style of play at Cowley. We are excited to have her as a part of our program."
Ceroni is the daughter of Dino Ceroni and Veronica Gagni of Pescara, Italy.
