The nationally ranked Cowley College volleyball team has signed Makenna Murray of Honolulu, Hawaii to begin her college career in the fall of 2022.
Murray, a 5-foot-11 middle hitter, prepped at Sacred Hearts Academy where she played four seasons of volleyball. She helped lead her team to conference title in going undefeated her freshman season. In her senior and junior years, Murray was named all-conference.
Murray also participated in club volleyball for the Rainbow Volleyball Club, Hou & Kaimana Volleyball Club and the Del Sol Volleyball Club where she continued her training beyond her high school seasons and for college volleyball preparation. In 2018, her Rainbow Volleyball Club won the Gold Medal in the Champions League Hawaii. Covid-19 cut short her tournament time with the Hou & Kaimana VBC seasons but she was still able to train and develop in the sport. While playing for the Del Sol Volleyball Club, her team earned medals in their USAV tournaments.
Off the volleyball court, Murray served as a Leo Club member for Lion's Club International, member of the Mauka to Makai Club, member of the Girl Scouts, and also served as vice-president of Digital Media.
Cowley head volleyball coach Steven Gream states, "Makenna is a wonderful addition to our program. She has athleticism and timing that allows her to play strong at the net with her attacking and blocking abilities. Makenna also has excellent court awareness, ball control, and has the ability to play both middle and opposite positions. We were looking for a hitter who is able to do a variety of things and give us another weapon on both offense and defense. She will adjust well to our fast-paced offense and run a variety of sets that our offensive system requires for a middle hitter. We are very excited to have her as a part of the Cowley volleyball program."
Murray is the daughter of Mike and Kendra Murray of Honolulu, Hawaii.
