Having showcased her talents each of the past two seasons as a member of the nationally ranked Cowley College volleyball team, sophomore Maddy Pitts has parlayed that success into signing a letter of intent with Emporia State University on Tuesday.
Pitts developed into one of the top right side hitters in the Jayhawk Conference during her freshmen year when she was named an honorable mention all-conference and Second Team all-district selection. She recorded 210 kills and 43 blocks as Cowley went 16-11.
This past season, she was limited to only eight matches due to injury. However, Pitts' presence and leadership helped the Lady Tigers' finish as the national runner-up and finish with a record of 41-1.
"My time at Cowley has been awesome, I wish it were a four-year school," Pitts said. "I could not ask for anything more during my time here as a volleyball player. Even though I was hurt the majority of last season, I still learned a lot watching from the sideline and the success of the team was all that mattered."
Cowley volleyball head coach Steven Gream recruited Pitts to come to Cowley while she was an All-AVCTL performer at Goddard High School.
"Maddy knew she had much to learn about the college game and developed into one of the top right sides in the KJCCC," Gream said. "Her powerful attack and excellent blocking skills will be a great asset to Emporia and playing in the tough MIAA conference. Emporia is getting a great player who works hard to improve each day and loves playing volleyball at a high level."
