Lady Tiger volleyball team adds outside hitter from Brazil
The top-ranked Cowley College volleyball team has signed Layane Lima of Sao Paulo, Brazil, to the roster for the upcoming 2022 season.
The top-ranked Cowley College volleyball team has signed Layane Lima of Sao Paulo, Brazil, to the roster for the upcoming 2022 season.
Lima, a 5-foot-9 outside hitter, prepped at Externato Rio Branco in Sao Bernardo, Brazil. She began playing volleyball for Sao Bernardo in 2015 where she played until 2020. Lima led her team to a second place finish at Jogos Escolares championship in both 2018 and 2019. She also led her team to a first place finish at Desafio Voleibol Entre Escolas tournament in 2020. From 2017-2020 she was named Most Valuable Player of her league and from 2016-2020 she was named captain of her team. In 2021, she began playing for Diadema.
"Layane is an athletic outside hitter with a super-fast arm swing who will add a dominant presence to our offense and also our defense," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "She is an all-around player who is gifted with great athleticism, power, speed, and ball control. These qualities will fit perfectly with our style of play here at Cowley. Layane has played at a high level during her high school years and we look for her to bring that experience and grow in the college game here at Cowley."
Lima is the daughter of Luis Carlos and Luciana Minervino de Lima of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
