Bahner named recipient of Thirty Under 30 Award
February 27, 2012
The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) recently announced its Thirty Under 30 Awards. This award was created in 2009 to honor up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of the sport. To qualify for the award nominees had to be 30 years old or younger in 2011. Cowley College head coach Jenifer Bahner made the prestigious list after guiding the Lady Tigers to the NJCAA Division II national championship during the 2011 season.
Bahner was one of only two junior college coaches to be featured in the Thirty Under 30 awards. During the 2011 season, Bahner guided Cowley to a record of 38-2 overall and 10-0 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division. She has compiled a record of 104-11 in her three years as head coach of the Lady Tigers. Along with guiding Cowley to the program's first-ever national championship, she has helped the team capture three straight conference and district titles.
Bahner was thrilled to be recognized as one of the top up and coming coaching talents in the sport of volleyball.
"This is not just my career but something I love to do, so to be recognized by fellow coaches is a tremendous honor," Bahner said. "Without the success of the team and our program this would not be possible."
The list of winners will be featured in the upcoming March edition of Coaching Volleyball 2.0.
"I love this award! said AVCA Executive Director, Kathy DeBoer, "And even more, I love how our membership has embraced this award. The number of nominees now ranks in the hundreds, and they are coming from all parts of our membership, bright, hard-working, passionate, talented young volleyball coaches!"
Of the thirty recipients, 19 are head coaches and 11 are assistant coaches. Ten are NCAA Division I women's coaches, four coach NAIA squads, four are NCAA Division III and another four for high school. There are also three NCAA Division II recipients along with three Club coaches and two Two-Year College coaches.
