Volleyball picks up 20th win with victory at Longview
September 30, 2011
For the second time this season, the No. 1-ranked Cowley College volleyball team took to the road to play Longview (MO) Community College. And, for the second time the Lady Tigers came away with the win in four games.
Having defeated Longview 25-18, 22-25, 25-17, 25-18 in its second match of the season played at the Johnson County Tournament, Cowley won by almost the identical score Thursday in Lee's Summit, MO as they defeated the Lakers 25-17, 17-25, 25-19, 25-19.
The victory improves Cowley's record to 20-2 on the season.
On Thursday, Cowley got another strong game from hitters Martyna Gluchowicz (16 kills) and Danika Maggard (15 kills).
"Danika and Martyna both played well and kept that consistency from the match vs. Butler on Wednesday," Cowley head coach Jenifer Bahner said. "We are starting to see a high level of play from our kids."
Molley Scanlon led Cowley with 50 assists and Shanna Seyfarth contributed 27 digs. The Lady Tigers finished with 93 digs in the four games.
"Our defense was really good this match," Bahner said. "Shanna played really well, it was good to see her get a few more chances and help us out."
Cowley will now prepare to play at Independence Monday at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Pirates have struggled to a record of 1-11 overall and 0-5 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division.
Bahner hopes to use the match vs. Independence as an opportunity to get some other players on the team some valuable playing time.
"It will be good for those girls to step on the court and show the coaches they deserve to be out there," Bahner said. "Maybe it will help their confidence a little bit as well."
