Cowley volleyball picks up road win at NOC, prepares for home match vs. Butler
September 28, 2011
Stepping out of conference to play a road match at Northern Oklahoma College-Enid on Monday, the top-ranked Cowley College volleyball team had no trouble in picking up the 25-11, 25-10, 25-14 win.
With freshman middle hitter Sabetha Young contributing a team-high 10 kills in only two games of action, Cowley improved its record to 18-2 on the season.
"Sabetha brings a lot of energy to the team," Cowley head coach Jenifer Bahner said. "I was happy to see her make the most of her playing time."
Sophomore Goda Jankauskaite also played well and added eight kills and two blocks, while Molley Scanlon led the team with 29 assists.
Bahner was also pleased with the team's defense as Shanna Seyfarth and Georgina Perez contributed 12 digs and eight digs, respectively.
"We had been struggling a little bit with playing consistently, so it was nice to see us go out and play good Cowley volleyball," Bahner said.
Cowley had only six hitting errors the entire match.
"We did a good job of minimizing our errors and not giving the other team points," Bahner said.
Cowley will look to keep pace in the Jayhawk East with Highland and Johnson County when they host Butler Community College tonight at 6:30 p.m. as all three teams are 4-0 in the conference. Butler is 14-9 overall and 2-2 in the Jayhawk East.
"Butler is always a big rival of ours, so it is exciting to be playing them at home," Bahner said. "They are known to have tall, strong hitters, so we will need to slow down their attacks."
Cowley has won 28 home matches in a row dating back to the 2008 season.
"We hope to feed off the energy of our home crowd," Bahner said.
