Tiger track and field teams get work done before hosting the Region meet
Getting ready to host the Jayhawk Conference/Region VI Championships this Thursday through Saturday, the Cowley College men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams had some good performances leading up to the meet while competing against 14 other schools and a total of 374 athletes at the Fort Hays State University Alex Francis Classic on April 23 in Hays, KS.
The highlight of the meet was Lady Tiger Aaliyah Treat breaking Richelle Farley's 15-year-old school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.24.
"Aaliyah is on fire and so much fun to watch compete," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said.
Treat also came within an inch of her personal best in the pole vault.
Fellow freshman Euvia Bennett won the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.77, and Clayton Lopeman was the Tigers' top finisher on the men's side, placing third in the high jump.
"It was nice to come out here and get one last competition to work out some things before we head into championship season and finish out our year strong," Rieth said.
Cowley will now prepare to host the Jayhawk Conference/Region VI Championships on Thursday through Saturday at the Mark A. Phillips Track and Field Complex. The Lady Tigers are the defending conference champions, while the Tiger men finished as the runner-up in last year's conference meet.
