Lady Tiger tennis team defeats conference foe 8-1
Dropping only one match against No. 13-ranked Pratt Community College in its final home contest of the season, the No. 2-ranked Cowley College women’s tennis team defeated the Beavers 8-1 on Thursday in Arkansas City, KS.
The Lady Tigers have won nine of their past 10 contests. On Thursday, they won all three doubles matches before going 5-1 in singles play.
Cowley's five sophomores, who helped Cowley finish as the 2025 national runner-up and achieve a No. 2 national ranking this season, were honored before the match. The sophomores are Kendra Arostegui, Naghely Garcia Galian, Sofia Karlau, Chiho Takada, and Cynthia Wanjala.
Cowley will face another conference opponent when they travel to Liberal, KS, to take on No. 6-ranked Seward County on Tuesday, April 7.

*No. 1 – Naghely Garcia Galian/Cynthia Wanjala (CC) defeated Barbara Mattar/Ilsa Smaalders (PCC) 8-3.
*No. 2 – Nathanielle Lee/Sofia Karlau (CC) defeated Emma Fabiola Guzman Mundarain (PCC) 8-2.
*No. 3 – Lisa Takamura/Chiho Takada (CC) won by forfeit.
SINGLES
*No. 1 – Karlau (CC) defeated Mundarain (PCC) 6-0, 6-2.
*No. 2 – Wanjala (CC) defeated Ebonie Russell (PCC) 6-1, 6-0.
*No. 3 – Galian (CC) lost to Smaalders (PCC) 6-2, 2-6, 2-6.
*No. 4 – Takada (CC) defeated Mattar (PCC) 7-6(3), 6-1.
*No. 5 – Takamura (CC) defeated Alysa Zimmerman (PCC) 6-0, 6-0.
*No. 6 – Kendra Arostegui (CC) won by forfeit.
