Cowley tennis teams play well in matches at Southern Arkansas

Taking to the road to face NCAA Division II Southern Arkansas University on Saturday in Magnolia, AR, the nationally ranked Cowley College women's and men's tennis teams played well against the NCAA Division II Muleriders.

The No. 2-ranked Lady Tigers defeated Southern Arkansas 5-2, while the No. 5-ranked Tiger men played several close singles matches before losing 7-0.

"Both teams played really well," Cowley head coach Marcel Miasato said. "I am happy with the way they performed in both singles and doubles."

Naghely Garcia Galian and Lisa Takamura helped Cowley win their doubles matches before winning their singles matches in three sets.

"They showed a lot of resilience and mental strength, especially in the third set," Miasato said.

Sofia Karlua and Kendra Arostegui also picked up singles wins for the Lady Tigers.

The Tiger men had singles players Luca Laurindo and Wojtek Biela take their respective matches to three sets before losing. The No. 1 Cowley doubles team of Haruki Okude and Dan Hosono also played well and led 5-2 before the match was halted with the Muleriders having already clinched the doubles point.

The Cowley tennis teams will have some time off before competing at the Tyler Junior College Spring Break Invitational, March 12-14 in Tyler, TX.
