No. 6-ranked Lady Tigers battle Hutchinson to a 2-2 tie
In a game that featured all of the scoring in the first half, the No. 6-ranked Cowley College women’s soccer team battled Hutchinson to a 2-2 tie on Saturday in Arkansas City.
Cowley (6-0-3) remains unbeaten and in firm control of first place in the Jayhawk Conference with a conference record of 6-0-2. The Blue Dragons are now 6-2-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the Jayhawk Conference.
Twice in the opening half, the Tigers went ahead of Hutchinson thanks to goals from Sara Cortez and Sara Arsee. However, the Blue Dragons got goals from Anastasia Pokrandt and Isabella Puccinelli's goal just 22 seconds before halftime tied the game at 2-2.
Cowley outshot Hutchinson 10-2 in the second half and had a couple shots hit the crossbar, but were unable to score as the game finished in a 2-2 draw.
"This was a tough one, because we started the game well," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said. "We made a couple of mistakes that ended up costing us."
The Blue Dragons did not place a shot on goal in the game's final 45 minutes.
"We created opportunities in the second half, but we could not finish," dos Santos said.
Saturday's game marked the first game this season in which Cowley allowed more than one goal. Lady Tiger goalkeeper Jessica Suelly had two saves in the contest, while Mai-Line Geffry added Cowley's lone assist.
Cowley is now 4-0-3 in its last seven contests against Hutchinson.
The Lady Tigers will remain home to face Seward County on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Saints are 4-5 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
"We need to regroup and realize every game will be a challenge because every team will be better when we play them for the second time," dos Santos said.
