Tiger wrestling team dominates duals to capture first conference title since 2020
Putting a cap on a dominating run through the Jayhawk Conference, the No. 10-ranked Cowley College wrestling team defeated Neosho County 52-0 and host Barton County 41-9 on Thursday in Great Bend, KS. With the wins, the Tigers captured the program’s second conference title and first since 2020, going 7-0 in conference duals.
Tiger head coach Justice Circle, a member of the inaugural Cowley wrestling team, has enjoyed watching the program grow and reach new heights under his watchful eye.
"Having wrestled here, I realize how hard it is to win in this conference," Circle said. "This is a huge accomplishment for the guys. You reap what you sow."
On Thursday, Tiger wrestlers Colt Collett (125 pounds), Canaan Brummett (133 pounds), Evan Rodriguez (141 pounds), Toby West (157 pounds), Scout Trotter (174 pounds), David Sample (184 pounds), and Jason Osgood (197 pounds) each went 2-0. Collett and Rodriguez not only went 2-0, but they also combined to win all four matches by fall.
Cowley will now set its sights on a region title when it takes part in the South Central District Tournament on Saturday, February 14, in Pratt, KS.
"We will enjoy this for a moment and then move on and work towards regionals," Circle said. "It is the biggest region in the country, so it will be tough. We need to keep training and be prepared."
