Tiger sophomores lead the way in 33-17 home win over Cloud
Capping an undefeated dual season at home, the No. 10-ranked Cowley College wrestling team took down Cloud County 33-17 on Wednesday inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.
The Tigers, winners of four duals in a row, finished 4-0 in home duals this season.
Cowley honored its sophomores on the roster prior to Wednesday night's dual. Sophomores Ryker Agee, Cam Kiser, Dylan Reed, and Evan Rodriguez wrestled against the T-Birds, while other sophomores on the team are Braxton Hummel, Brannigan Reyes, Keenan Smith, AB Stokes, and Toby West.
"These sophomores have bought into the program and have led the freshmen to understand what we want out of our program and the standards here," Cowley head coach Justice Circle said.
On Wednesday, the Tigers pulled away from Cloud thanks to No. 2-ranked Evan Rodriguez (141 pounds), Ryker Agee (149 pounds), and Greyson Zellers (157 pounds), who each won three matches in a row by fall.
"Those guys did a good job of capitalizing on their opportunities," Circle said. "I am happy with how the guys wrestled."
Other Tigers to pick up victories on Wednesday were No. 12-ranked Colt Collett (125 pounds), No. 5-ranked Scout Trotter (174 pounds), and 12th-ranked David Sample (184 pounds). All three won by tech fall, and Trotter remains unbeaten against NJCAA competition.
"There are always things to work on, but I am proud to continue to win by the margins we are winning by," Circle said. "Guys are looking for falls and getting bonus points, and that is how you win duals."
Cowley will attempt to keep its momentum going when it competes in a triangular vs Fort Hays Tech Northwest and No. 8-ranked Pratt Community College on Tuesday in Pratt, KS.
"Us and Pratt are one and two in the conference, and Pratt is a hard place to wrestle," Circle said. "We will continue to fine-tune some things and hope they show up in matches."

*157 pounds – Greyson Zellers (CC) won by fall over Nick Davis (Cloud).
*165 pounds – Jacob Vasquez (Cloud) won a 12-3 decision over Dylan Reed (CC).
*174 pounds – Scout Trotter (CC) won by tech fall (16-1) over Micah Couthers (Cloud).
*184 pounds – David Sample (CC) won by tech fall (17-2) over Jase Fitzmorris (Cloud).
*197 pounds – Tyler Pankey (Cloud) won a 10-8 decision over Jason Osgood (CC).
