Collett, Rodriguez lead the Tiger wrestling team at the 918 Open
Competing against 39 teams from the NCAA Division 1, Division II, NAIA, and Junior College level, the No. 7-ranked Cowley College wrestling team had a pair of first-place finishers while taking part in the 918 Open on Saturday in Broken Arrow, OK.
The Tigers were led by freshman Colt Collett, who went 5-0 and placed first at the 125-pound weight class, and sophomore Evan Rodriguez, who went 5-0 and placed first at 141 pounds.
"We saw some good competition, and it was good for some of our starters to get more matches," Cowley head coach Justice Circle said. "Colt beat a lot of good guys, and Evan had a good showing as well. It was a good way to cap the first semester."
The Tigers wrestled six guys and had several redshirt athletes get some mat time at the 918 Open.
Cowley will not compete again before wrestling at the Jet Open on Sunday, January 4, at Newman University in Wichita, KS.
"The break comes at a good time as we have some guys dealing with nagging injuries," Circle said. "The Jet Open will be a tune-up for us to see where we are at before heading into the NJCAA Coaches Duel the week after that."
