Tiger wrestling team records first shutout in program history
With a large and boisterous crowd on hand, the No. 6-ranked Cowley College wrestling team won every single match in a 45-0 win over rival Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa on Wednesday inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.
The shutout was the first in the history of the Tiger wrestling program.
"We were gritty and tough, and each person took care of their job," Cowley head coach Justice Circle said. "That environment was something you won't see at our level much. It was a really cool experience for our guys to be a part of."
Cowley scored bonus points in eight of 10 matches.
"That is a testament to our training and the work that the guys have put in," Circle said.
Ranked No. 1 at 125 pounds, Cowley's AB Stokes got the evening started with a 19-4, tech fall victory over the Mavericks' Jimmy Swenson.
At 165 pounds, Cowley's Dylan Reed trailed NOC's Waleed Khari 7-1 in the third period before rallying for a 9-8 win by scoring the deciding three points in the final seconds.
"That is what this sport is all about," Circle said. "He had a frustrating first two periods and then found a way to win, and at the end of the day, that is all you can ask of your athletes."
In the final match of the night, Cowley's Jason Osgood was tied with NOC's Cooper Johnson late in the third period when Osgood was able to secure three points and a 4-1 win.
Osgood gave up 70 pounds to Johnson.
"As a coach, it is satisfying to know your guys are not only wrestling for themselves, but for the team," Circle said.
Cowley will compete at the Younes Hospitality Open on Saturday, November 22, at 9 a.m. in Kearney, Nebraska.
"Today is a new day, so we need to get back on the horse and keep working toward our goals," Circle said.

*141 pounds – Evan Rodriguez (CC) won by tech fall (23-4) over Laker Ingram (NOC).
*149 pounds – Ryker Agee (CC) won by tech fall (16-0) over Brady Oldfield
*157 pounds – Greyson Zellers (CC) won a 13-3 major decision over Jayden Johnson (NOC).
*165 pounds – Dylan Reed (CC) defeated Waleed Khari (NOC) 9-8.
*174 pounds – Brannigan Reyes (CC) won by tech fall (15-0) over Keaton Belsha (NOC).
*184 pounds – Scout Trotter (CC) won by tech fall (17-2) over Aiden Vasquez (NOC).
*197 pounds – David Sample (CC) won by tech fall (18-2) over Tyzel Zackary (NOC).
*285 pounds – Jason Osgood (CC) defeated Cooper Johnson (NOC) 4-1.
