Three Tiger wrestlers place first at the Maverick Open
Competing at the Maverick Open in Tonkawa, OK, on Saturday, the No. 6-ranked Cowley College wrestling team had several wrestlers do well before its home match on Wednesday.
"It was good for us to go get mat time over the weekend and see some more schools we have not wrestled," Cowley head coach Justice Circle said.
The Tigers got first-place finishes from Evan Rodriguez (141 pounds), Jaxon Trotter (184 pounds), and David Sample (197 pounds).
"Those guys really wrestled well," Circle said.
Canaan Brummett (125 pounds), Dylan Reed (157 pounds), and Jason Osgood (197 pounds) also wrestled well and finished as runners-up in their respective weight classes, while Louden Wolfe (133 pounds) and Ayden Benitez (285 pounds) placed third.
"It was good to see those guys keep stacking on top of what we have been doing," Circle said.
Cowley will now prepare to host a dual against Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
"NOC has some tough kids, and they are a rival for us," Circle said. "Their fans travel well, so we expect a big crowd. We are excited for the opportunity to wrestle at home."
