Tiger wrestling team falls to a pair of ranked opponents

Hosting No. 5-ranked Fort Hays Tech and 13^th-ranked Labette on Tuesday inside W.S. Scott Auditorium, the No. 14-ranked Cowley College wrestling team battled hard, but a few open weights led to its downfall. The Tigers opened with a 34-21 loss against Fort Hays Tech before falling 34-16 against the Cardinals.

Cowley had two open weights in the loss to Fort Hays Tech and three in the match with Labette.

"It's hard to get that ball rolling when you are missing a few guys," Cowley head coach Justice Circle said. "Still, there were some good things with Jacen Jackson pinning the number three ranked kid for the second time in a month, and Shawn Bamba had a good match against Labette."

Bamba went 2-0 at 149 pounds. Wrestling at 157 pounds, No. 10-ranked Jacen Jackson lost to Fort Hays Tech's Job Lee before winning by fall over third-ranked Davion King of Labette.

Cowley freshman Evan Rodriguez, the top-ranked wrestler at 141 pounds, defeated Fort Hays Tech's Xavier Castillo 3-0 before losing to Labette's Jordan Cullors in overtime.

Cowley will remain home to host Cloud County in a dual on Wednesday, January 29, at 5 p.m.

"This will be the longest break we will have in the last month, so we will use it to let our guys heal up and get over some sickness," Circle said.
