Kiser, Rodriguez lead the way as Tiger wrestling team opens the second semester

Returning to the mat for the first time in three weeks, the No. 20-ranked Cowley College wrestling team had some solid performances at the JET Open held Saturday at Newman University in Wichita.

Tiger freshmen Cameron Kiser and Evan Rodriguez each went 4-1 at the JET Open. Kiser placed second at 133 pounds, while Rodriguez finished third at 141 pounds.

"I thought our guys responded well, returning from Christmas break," Cowley head coach Justice Circle said. "It was good to get our lungs and conditioning back before this weekend's tournament in Miami, Oklahoma."

Cowley's Dylan Reed also wrestled well, going 3-2 in the 149-pound weight class.

The Tigers will compete at the NJCAA Coaches Dual on Friday and Saturday in Miami, OK. The competition will begin on both days at 8 a.m.

"We will see competition from different regions we don't normally get to see," Circle said. "We are working hard to get back in the groove of things. We are on the right track, just dealing with injuries like everyone is."

Cowley Results:

*125 pounds – Jimmy Swenson (CC) went 2-2.

*133 pounds – Cameron Kiser (CC) went 4-1 and placed second.

*141 pounds – Evan Rodriguez (CC) went 4-1 and placed third.

*149 pounds – Dylan Reed (CC) went 3-2.

*157 pounds – Preston Lee (CC) had to medically forfeit.

*174 pounds – Keenan Smith (CC) went 2-2.

*184 pounds - Brannigan Reyes (CC) went 2-1.

*197 pounds – Chad Adams (CC) went 1-2.

*285 pounds - Jacob Acedo (CC) went 2-2.
