Tiger wrestlers have solid showing in season-opener

With only four sophomores on the roster, the Cowley College wrestling team viewed Saturday's season-opener at the Friends University Invite in Wichita as a learning tool and a way to see what they need to work on moving forward.

Freshman Evan Rodriguez from Broken Arrow, OK, led the way by going 5-0 and placing first in the 141-pound weight class. Sophomore Jacen Jackson, who won three matches at last year's national meet, picked up where he left off by going 5-1 and placing third in the 165-pound weight class.

Tiger freshman Cameron Kiser also fared well as he went 5-1 and placed fourth in the 133-pound weight class.

"Overall, it was a pretty good showing," Cowley head coach Justice Circle said. "It was a good gauge to see where we are as a team and where we need to work on."

Cowley will next compete at the Viking Open hosted by Carl Albert State College on Saturday at 8 a.m. in Poteau, OK.

"Right now we are focusing on cleaning things up technically and getting as many matches as possible," Circle said.

Cowley results at Friends Invite:

*125 pounds – Jimmy Swenson went 3-1.

*133 pounds – Cameron Kiser went 5-1 and placed fourth; Beau Murphy went 1-2.

*141 pounds – Evan Rodriguez went 5-0 and placed first.

*149 pounds – Dylan Reed went 2-2.

*165 pounds – Jacen Jackson went 5-1 and placed third.

*174 pounds – Cesar Morales went 1-2

*184 pounds – Keenan Smith went 2-2.

*197 pounds – Chad Adams went 2-2.

*285 pounds – Jacob Acedo went 2-2; Kros Madry went 0-2.
