Lady Tigers belt five home runs in doubleheader sweep of Labette
Rallying for a 12-7 win in game one of its home doubleheader vs. Labette on Saturday, the Cowley College softball team run-ruled the Cardinals 9-1 in game two to sweep the doubleheader played at Ed Hargrove Field.
The Lady Tigers are now 15-15 overall and 3-1 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division. Labette falls to 11-17 and 0-4 in the conference.
Cowley rallied from deficits of 3-0 and 7-5 in game one as the Lady Tigers erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 12-7.
Both teams finished with 16 hits in the opener. Cowley's Taylor Clay and Kiki Warner had three hits apiece, and the Tigers got homers from Carsen Carpenter and Hannah Howard.
Dacey Morris (8-6) went the distance on the mound for Cowley and was charged with only four earned runs due to four Tiger errors.
Hannah Howard quieted the Cardinal bats in game two, allowing six hits and one run in the six-inning run-rule. The victory improves Howard's record to 5-3.
Taverli Tennant hit her team-leading eighth home run of the season, while Kiki Warner and Kylie Cartwright also homered in the win.
Cowley will return to the diamond today when they play a doubleheader at Butler at 2 p.m. The Grizzlies are 13-11 on the season.
