Cowley softball has a tough weekend in Oklahoma
Held to only five runs in four games, the Cowley College softball team went 0-4 at the Murray State Roundrobin Tournament played Friday and Saturday in Tishomingo, OK.
The Lady Tigers opened with a doubleheader against North Central Texas on Friday, losing 4-1 and 6-3. Cowley returned to action on Saturday against the top-ranked Murray State Aggies and was run-ruled in both games, 12-1 and 10-0.
Cowley is now 5-7 on the season.
In game one against North Central Texas, Cowley managed only four hits and struck out eight times against the Lions' Rylee Adams, who went the distance on the mound.
Dacey Morris took the loss, allowing six hits and four runs in six innings pitched. Breanna Curry led Cowley at the plate by going 1-for-2 with a double and a run batted in.
Olivia Martin led North Central Texas by going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and two runs batted in.
In game two, Cowley out-hit North Central 12-8 and led 2-1 entering the final inning before the Lions erupted for five runs to win 6-3.
Hannah Howard (1-3) started on the mound for Cowley and allowed seven hits and five runs. Gracy Smith, Taverli Tennant, and Curry had two hits apiece in the defeat.
The Lions improve to 10-11 on the season.
Facing undefeated Murray State on Saturday, Cowley was overmatched in a pair of five-inning contests.
Lauren Howerton (0-1) started game one for the Tigers and allowed nine runs in two innings pitched.
The Aggies got a home run, and four runs batted in from Kaylee Carter and Isabella Henderson improved her record to 12-0 after allowing five hits and one run in four innings pitched.
Hannah Howard went 1-for-2 and drove in Cowley's lone run.
Cowley remained close to the Aggies in the finale before Murray State scored eight runs off Morris (2-3) in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Lilly Wyche went 2-for-3 with a home run, double, and four runs batted in as Murray State out-hit Cowley 9-3.
The Aggies' Carolyn Overton (5-0) tossed four scoreless innings to earn the win.
Curry had two of Cowley's three hits and went 6-of-11 in the four games.
Cowley will continue its busy slate of games by playing a doubleheader at Barton County on Monday at 1 p.m. The Cougars are 6-8 on the season.
