Tigers run well at 36th annual Missouri Southern Stampede
Competing at the 36th annual Missouri Southern Stampede on Saturday at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin, MO, the top-five ranked Cowley College men’s and women’s cross country teams had some good performances.
On the men's side, Tiger sophomore Esteban Boisseau continued to run well, placing 14th out of 267 runners with an 8K time of 24:15.68. Missouri Western's Pau Valderrama won the men's race with a time of 23:39.21.
Cowley's Wilson Navarette (26:13.10) placed 75th, while Conner Walker (26:37.14) finished 90th.
Other Tiger runners were Alexis Realland (27:16.03, 122nd place), Samuel Lovell (27:28.13, 133rd place), Herson Rodriguez (27:54.31, 152nd place), and Eli Roberts (28:13.57, 161st place).
Hutchinson placed first out of 26 teams in the men's standings, while Cowley finished 13th.
The Lady Tigers were led by freshman Linda Filipova, who placed 59th out of 236 runners in the women's race. The next closest Lady Tiger finisher was sophomore Pauline Althoff, who finished 99th with a time of 20:24.55. Freshman Zuzana Bokova was just behind in 101st place with a time of 20:26.83.
Hutchinson's Mildred Rono won the women's 5K race with a time of 16:49.23.
NCAA Division II school Pittsburg State University placed first among the women's teams, just in front of host Missouri Southern. Cowley did not figure in the team scoring.
The Tiger cross country teams will return to action at 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, when they compete at Fort Hays State University.
