Fresh off a dominating win over the previously top-ranked team in the ITA Tennis rankings, Tyler Junior College, the Cowley College men's tennis team took over the No. 1 ranking in the NJCAA Division I Tennis poll.
The Tigers, which are 4-0 on the season, have defeated three NCAA Division II schools to go along with their 7-2 win over three-time defending national champion Tyler Junior College.
"Achieving the No. 1 ranking has been a goal of ours since last year when we finished as the national runner-up," Cowley head coach Manuel Raga said. "We have done a good job of overcoming some adversity to become the No. 1 team in the nation. However, after hearing we were No. 1 we went back to practice the same as always. It is one stop on the way to our ultimate goal of winning a national championship. We will not stop working until after nationals."
Cowley will have a chance to entertain its home fans when they host a pair of matches against NCAA Division II schools Southwest Baptist University and Newman University March 21 and 22 at 2 p.m. at the Arkansas City High School tennis courts.
Tiger tennis team members are, Takeshi Taco, Boruch Skierkier, Taiyo Hirano, Harry Collins, Gaston Erhardt, Aymeric Bruno, Andoni Garmendia, Carlos Castillo, Aditya Roy Chowdhury, Arthur Hernandes, Leandro Zgraggen, Victor Peroo, Joe Blake, Hanamichi Carvajal, and Vinicius Pohl Mora.
