With a match at No. 1 Tyler Community College looming on Saturday, the No. 2-ranked Cowley College men's tennis team did a good job of not looking ahead in a 6-1 win at NCAA Division II Midwestern State University Wednesday in Wichita Falls, TX.
The victory improves Cowley's record to 3-0 in the spring season.
"Since the beginning of the season in the Fall, I have seen the boys get better and better at such a rapid pace," Cowley head coach Manuel Raga said. "All the hard work, the 6 a.m. workouts, the long hours on the court are paying off big time for us."
On Wednesday, Cowley won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches. Takeshi Taco, Boruch Skierkier and Gaston Erhardt went 2-0 on the day.
"I have said it before a few times, but when our guys are playing it feels like their confidence in themselves, in the team, in our coaching staff is sky-high," Raga said. "There is still a lot of work to do though."
Cowley will face a Tyler tennis team that has won three straight NJCAA Division I national championships.
"We are ready for that challenge and to continue to get better every time we step on the court," Raga said.
