Cowley College sophomore tennis player Takeshi Taco, the defending champion at No. 2 singles, has continued his strong play in the fall exhibition season. Taco advanced to the singles final of the 14-team Tiger/Jinx Tennis Tournament held Friday and Saturday at the T.H. Vaughan Tennis Courts in Winfield. Taco and fellow Tiger teammate Boruch Skierkier advanced to the finals in singles' Bracket A before deciding to share the top spot in the bracket.
"We had a great turn around during our Tiger/Jinx Invitational," Raga said. "The teams competed against each other on a weekend full of talented players from all divisions (NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA)."
Tiger tennis players Harry Collins and Leandro Zgraggen also played well and advanced to the finals of Bracket B before sharing the title.
The Lady Tiger tennis team also fared well at the Tiger/Jinx Tournament by playing matches at the Arkansas City High School tennis courts. Lady Tiger freshman Mariia Koroleva won the finals of Bracket B and teamed with Camila Neyra to win the Bracket A doubles.
"I was very pleased with how our athletes performed," Raga said. "We had several players reach the finals in multiple brackets and a few of them won their bracket."
The Cowley tennis teams will now prepare to take part in the Oklahoma City Collegiate Open on Friday and Saturday before hosting the ITA Regional Championship September 24-26 in Arkansas City. The Cowley Sports Network will live stream the ITA Championship Finals on courts No. 1 and 2 on Sunday, September 26.
"Both the men and women teams are looking very strong, confident, and ready to take on anyone we face," Raga said.
