Ishii named KJCCC DI Men’s Soccer Player of the Week
Sophomore All-American Kanta Ishii of the Cowley College men’s soccer team was recently named the KJCCC DI Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, while Barton Community College’s Gabriel Bergamin was named the Goalkeeper of the Week.
Ishii, the returning Jayhawk Conference Offensive Player of the Year, helped No. 4 Cowley remain unbeaten on the year, earning a 3-1 win over Seward County with Ishii having a role in all three goals. After assisting on a pair of first-half goals to put the Tigers up 2-1 heading into the break, Ishii gave Cowley a 3-1 lead four minutes into the second half as Seward County would be limited to just two shots in the second half. This season, Cowley is 3-0-0 and has allowed just one goal while outscoring opponents 12-1.
After being sidelined by an early-season injury, Gabriel Bergamin made a strong return in No. 9 Barton's 4-0 road win at Seward County. The sophomore goalkeeper played nearly 72 minutes, stopping the only shot he faced to help secure Barton's second shutout of the season.
