Three days after clinching the conference title, the No. 7-ranked Cowley College men's soccer team was back in action Saturday at Barton Community College. The Tigers scored two goals in the first 15 minutes before the Cougars would rally to earn a 2-2 tie.
Cowley (10-1-3) remains unbeaten in the Jayhawk Conference with a record of 8-0-3, while Barton (9-6-2) remains in third place in the conference with a record of 5-4-1.
Things started well for Cowley on Saturday as Sota Nakazono scored only 3:25 into the contest. The goal for Nakazono was his third of the season.
Eleven minutes later, Renan Syrio scored his fourth goal of the season off an assist from Joao Magalhaes to increase the Tigers' lead to 2-0.
However, Barton would pull within 2-1 when Sho Kinjo scored his second goal of the season with 8:34 left before halftime.
The score would remain that way until Diego Giminez scored his fifth goal of the season with 10:17 remaining. Neither team would score again as the game finished in a 2-2 tie.
"We got complacent, and Barton played well to come back; at least we did not lose," Cowley head coach Ruy Vaz said.
Cowley will finish the regular season by hosting Kansas City Kansas Community College on Wednesday at 7. Kansas City is in second place in the Jayhawk Conference with a record of 5-2-3.
"This is a great opportunity for us to respond in the right way," Vaz said. "KCK will present us with a great challenge and will help us prepare for difficult games ahead."
