While preparing for the start of the 2021 soccer season, Cowley College men's soccer player Alexandre Picoto recently signed a letter of intent to continue his soccer career at NCAA Division II Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond, OK once his time at Cowley is through.
The returning center-back started 14 games as a freshman and is expected to have a big role on the Tigers' defensive line.
"Alexandre is the most disciplined center back we have ever had at Cowley," Tiger head coach Ruy Vaz said. "He reads the game very well and is a big game type of player. He made a tremendous impact during his freshman year and I am sure he will be a key player at Oklahoma Christian."
As a freshman, Picoto helped Cowley to one of its most successful seasons in the history of the program. Cowley repeated as conference champions, captured its first-ever district title, and won its first-ever game at the national tournament.
Picoto did all this while spending his first year away from his home in Cascais, Portugal.
"I came to the United States not knowing anything about American universities, but have really enjoyed my time at Cowley," Picoto said. "We had a really great season my freshman year and I hope to end my time at Cowley as a champion."
Picoto, who is majoring in accounting, will join an Oklahoma Christian squad that plays in the Lone Star Conference.
"Oklahoma Christian had the environment I was looking for in a four-year school," Picoto said. "I like the coach (David Scott) and the school has a good academic program."
