Four Tiger basketball players sign with four-year schools
Playing major roles for the Cowley College men’s basketball team, four Tigers recently signed letters of intent to continue their playing careers at four-year schools.
Freshman Roman Miller signed with NCAA Division 1 Stetson University in DeLand, FL. The Hatters won a game in the ASUN Conference Tournament before having their season come to an end with a loss to Austin Peay. Miller had a solid lone season at Cowley, averaging 14.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Miller scored 20 or more points in eight contests and put up a career-high 31 points in his final game in a Tiger uniform.
Freshman Jordan Smith signed with the NCAA Division II University of West Alabama. The Tigers finished 27-6 overall and 19-3 in the Gulf South Conference. Smith came back from injury to appear in 23 games for Cowley and made nine starts. The 6-8 post player shot 55 percent from the floor while averaging 5.3 points and 3.6 rebounds in an average of 11 minutes per game.
Leslie Owens Jr. signed with NCAA Division II Newman University, which is going through a program rebuild and will rely on Owens' experience and winning resume to help the Jets. Owens started all 33 games as a sophomore, averaging 10.7 points and 3.2 rebounds while scoring in double figures in 19 contests.
Lastly, sophomore Kyden Thompson signed with NCAA Division II Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN. The Railsplitters went 19-12 overall and 14-8 in the South Atlantic Conference. Thompson was known to fill up the stat sheet, averaging 8.5 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 51.3 percent from the floor.
"I'm very excited for all of our guys who have committed to these 4-year programs," Cowley head coach Donnie Jackson said. "They are very deserving of the opportunities they have earned, and we are thankful for their time here as Cowley Tigers."
