McGee named a First-Team All-Region VI selection for second straight season
March 9, 2011
Leading the region in three-pointers made (115) and three-point field goal percentage (.487), Cowley College sophomore Tyrus McGee was named a First-Team All-Region VI selection for the second straight year.
McGee, who was also recently named the Jayhawk East Most Valuable Player, averaged 20.1 points and 5.7 rebounds for the Tigers. He shot 85.6 percent from the free-throw line and led the team with 71 steals.
The 6-foot-2 guard from Stringtown, OK, finishes his Tiger career as the third leading scorer in school history (1,194 points) and his 662 points this season were the eighth most in a single season.
Cowley head coach Tommy DeSalme was happy to see McGee finish as the top vote getter in the region.
"I am glad to know the other coaches saw how much he brought to the table every night," DeSalme said. "This is a special award for a special kid."
McGee, who along with Hutchinson's Joe Mitchell, were the only back-to-back First-Team All-Region VI selections, helped Cowley to 46 wins and a record of 28-8 in the Jayhawk East during his two years at the school. He has signed to play basketball at Iowa State University next season.
