McGee named a First-Team All-Region VI selection
March 10, 2010
McGee, who was also recently named the Jayhawk East Freshman of the Year, averaged a team-best 16.6 points and 5.3 rebounds at Cowley.
The humble McGee was pleased to make the All-Region team.
"This means a lot to me, I attribute a lot of my success to my teammates," McGee said.
The 6-foot-2 freshman was second on the team in field goal percentage (50 percent), and first in free-throw percentage (82.1 percent). He led the team in three pointers made (80), while shooting a team-best 44 percent behind the arc.
He played his best basketball down the stretch. Over the last nine games, McGee averaged 22.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, and shot 57 percent (34-of-60) from three-point range.
After losing a tight contest against Seward County in the second-round of the Region VI Tournament, McGee is already looking forward to next season.
"I want to make my team better and my self better," McGee said. "I want to win a region championship."
Cowley head coach Tommy DeSalme was happy to see McGee recognized for his play on the court and enjoyed coaching the Stringtown, OK native this past season.
"He is one of the top players I have ever coached in terms of how he competes each day," DeSalme said. "He's a special kid. He has a lot of room for growth and has a chance to be one of the top players in the country next year."
