A pair of former Tigers were selected in the MLB Draft
Following successful campaigns as members of the Cowley College baseball team and continuing their success at four-year schools, former Tigers Alex Conover and Cody Airington were recently selected in the 2026 Major League Baseball draft.
Both played at Cowley during the 2024 season and helped the Tigers finish with a 43-18 record.
Conover went on to play two seasons at Oklahoma State University and was taken in the fourth round by the San Diego Padres. At Cowley, Conover batted .378 with 13 home runs and 56 runs batted in and was named a First Team All-Conference and All-Region selection. This past season at OSU, he batted .357 with 14 home runs, 37 runs batted in, and 16 stolen baes.
Airington led the Cowley pitching staff in victories during the 2024 season, going 7-2 with a 3.14 earned run average. The right-hander had a four-to-one strikeout-to-walk ratio (60-to-15) and was named a First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-Region performer. He went on to spend two seasons at Austin Peay State University in Tennessee.
At Austin Peay, he went 4-1 with a 3.54 ERA in his first season at the school. Airington followed that up by going 4-3 with a 5.12 ERA in his final year at the school. He struck out 85 in 104 innings pitched for the Governors.
The Texas Rangers selected Airington in the 20th round.
