Cowley’s Drake Fittro garners additional Gold Glove honors
The NJCAA has announced the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings 2026 NJCAA D1 Baseball Gold Glove Awards, with two Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference baseball players earning Gold Gloves at their positions.
Included in the list of Gold Glove winners for 2026 are Johnson County's Logan Groh (third base) and Cowley College's Drake Fittro (outfield). Of the nine players selected as NJCAA Division 1 Baseball Gold Glove winners, NJCAA Region 6 (Kansas) is one of only two NJCAA regions to have multiple NJCAA Division 1 Baseball Gold Glove winners, along with NJCAA Region 8 (Florida).
Fittro, who was previously named a Gold Glove centerfielder by the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference, was one of four players on this year's Gold Glove team to finish the year with a perfect fielding percentage, with 105 putouts and two assists across 107 total chances. All three outfielders had perfect fielding percentages, with Fittro joined by Bradyn Potter (Polk State College) and Christian Kiper (Mineral Area College) as the trio combined for 321 putouts and eight assists in 329 total chances.
Groh, who spent his freshman season at Cowley, becomes the first NJCAA Division 1 Baseball Gold Glove winner from Johnson County since Jeremy Rader in 2023, as the sophomore recorded a fielding percentage of .986 with 91 putouts and 47 assists across 140 total chances. Helping JCCC turn two double plays throughout the season, Groh played the final 27 games of the season without committing an error as the Cavaliers went on to win their first NJCAA National Title in program history and had at least one putout or assist in 60 of Johnson County's 70 games this season.
With the two Gold Glove winners, the KJCCC has now had multiple Gold Glove recipients from the conference in each of the past four years. The Conference has had at least one Gold Glove winner in each of the past six seasons, and nine of the last 10 seasons in which Gold Glove winners have been announced.
