Fittro helps power Tigers past Butler 13-3

With freshman Logan Smith driving in six runs in Wednesday's victory, it was freshman centerfielder Drake Fittro's time to shine on Sunday as the left-hander went 4-for-5 with a home run and four runs batted in.
Russ Smith (6-1) started on the mound for Cowley and struck out three while retiring all six batters he faced. Keegan Robertson followed Smith on the mound, and Butler did not get its first hit of the game until the top of the fifth inning.
After Butler started the fifth inning with back-to-back singles, Lucas Weaver followed Robertson on the mound. The Grizzlies would go on to score three times in the inning to pull within 6-3.
However, Fittro hit his third home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth, a two-run shot that increased Cowley's lead to 8-3. The Tigers would tack on another run in the three-run fifth before scoring three times in the seventh and once in the eighth to run-rule the Grizzlies.
Luke Schimmels struck out three in 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief, and Barrett Morgan lowered his earned run average to 0.48 by retiring all four batters he faced.
Dayton Pelfrey (0-2) took the loss for Butler, allowing five hits and two runs in three innings.
Dax McCaskill and Creed Muirhead added three hits for the Tigers, who out-hit Butler 15-2.
Cowley (38-8), winners of seven games in a row, will host Hutchinson (34-17) in a single game on Monday at 2 p.m.
Butler is now 24-23.
