Parker sets tone as Tigers sweep home doubleheader against Hutchinson

Cowley College sophomore starting pitcher Brigden Parker finally allowed a hit after a combined 11 1/3 innings but continued to dominate on the mound as he tossed a complete game shutout in the Tigers 6-0 win over Hutchinson Saturday in Arkansas City. Parker's gem carried over into a fine pitching performance in game two as Cowley pitchers allowed only one earned run in the 9-5 win.

Parker (3-0), who last allowed a hit in a 7-2 win at Allen County on March 25, had his streak of hitless innings snapped in the top of the first inning. However, he continued to throw up zeroes as he scattered four hits, while striking out seven and walking none.

In his past four starts he has allowed just one earned run on seven hits in 22 innings, while striking out 25 and walking seven.

Sophomore catcher Logan Vaughan provided Parker with all the run support he would need by homering and finishing 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two runs batted in.

Freshman third baseman Keaton Campbell also reached base safely all three times as he went 2-for-2 with a walk.

In game two, Cowley batted around in a six-run first inning. Campbell's three-run triple was one of seven hits for the Tigers in the inning. Campbell would add an RBI double in a three-run fourth as Cowley cruised to the 9-5 win.

Campbell is 11-of-18 with 10 RBI over his past five games.

"Campbell played a really good doubleheader in the field and at the plate," Cowley head coach Darren Burroughs said. "It was a couple good team wins."

Freshman pitcher Danny Satterlee (3-2) allowed just one earned run on five hits in his six innings pitched before being relieved on the mound by Chance Condit, who allowed only one hit in three scoreless innings of relief.

"Both starters were really good for us and Condit came in and finished the second game strong," Burroughs said.

Cowley took three of four in the series and is now 27-12 on the season. Hutchinson falls to 20-22.

The Tigers will play at Rose State College (18-20) Monday at 2 p.m.
