Tiger baseball team defeats a pair of Oklahoma schools

The No. 6-ranked Cowley College baseball team erupted for 26 runs in a pair of wins in Edmond, OK, on Thursday. The Tigers opened with a 14-1 win over Eastern Oklahoma before defeating Northeastern Oklahoma A&M 12-8.
In game one, the Mountaineers' Tyler Johnson hit a solo home run off Tiger starting pitcher Andrew Roach (1-0) in the top of the first inning to give Eastern Oklahoma the early lead. However, Cowley scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning to lead 3-1.
Sophomore Grady Davenport then delivered a three-run homer in the bottom of the second to increase the Tigers' lead to 6-1 and Roach settled in on the mound to allow only the one run while striking out five and walking none in three innings of work.
Cowley scored at least two runs in each inning of the run-rule victory over Eastern Oklahoma.
Sophomore Ethan Swanson followed Roach on the mound and retired six of the seven batters he raced to go along with three strikeouts.
Freshman Jack Carneal finished off the win by tossing two scoreless innings of relief.
Eastern Oklahoma's Jacob Womack was tagged with the loss as he allowed 10 hits and nine earned runs in four innings pitched.
Sophomore catcher Cody Milligan had a good game at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, while Daniel DeSimone and Corbin Lill had two hits apiece and combined for three RBIs.
Davenport finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs scored and four runs batted in.
The Mountaineers are now 3-4 on the season.
Cowley returned to the diamond later that night and defeated Northeastern Oklahoma A&M by a score of 12-8. Davenport had another big game as he went 5-for-6 with two doubles and three runs batted in.
Freshman second baseman Blaze Brothers was a homer shy of hitting for the cycle as he went 3-for-4 with four runs scored, while DeSimone also played well as he hit his first home run of the season and drove in two.
Cowley out-hit NEO 16-8 and rallied from an early 5-4 deficit. Clinging to a 9-8 lead after seven innings of play, the Tigers pulled away with three runs in the top of the eighth.
Miguel Obeso started on the mound for Cowley and allowed five runs in 1 1/3 innings. However, sophomore Cole Larsen (1-0) came on to toss 3 2/3 perfect innings of relief to pick up the win.
Sophomore Ryan Westerhoff closed out the victory by tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings to go along with four strikeouts.
The Tigers are now 5-2 on the season and are averaging nearly 10 runs per game in its five wins. NEO is now 1-4 on the season.
The Tigers final game in Edmond on Friday against Redlands Community College was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Cowley will now prepare for its home opener when they play Eastern Oklahoma in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 21.
