Petz continues to excel as a student-athlete

Petz, a senior catcher for the Ichabods baseball team, was recently named to the First Team of the Capital One Academic All-America baseball team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A physics major with a 4.0 GPA, Petz was a Second Team All-Mid America Intercollegiate Athletics Association pick after batting .307 with 13 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 42 RBIs as the Ichabods qualified for the MIAA postseason tournament for the first time since 2006.
Petz is Washburn's first baseball Academic All-American since Pat Colley in 2001 and the first First Team selection in school history.
He finished his two-year Washburn career with a .331 batting average, 22 doubles, five home runs and 76 RBIs.
Petz was a member of the Cowley College baseball team in 2008 and 2009 and helped lead the Tigers to back-to-back Jayhawk East titles and a trip to the 2009 JUCO World Series. He was also named Cowley College's October 2008 Student of the Month and the school's 2008-2009 Male Student-Athlete of the Year. He posted a 4.0 GPA at Cowley and was named a 2008-2009 National Junior College Athletic Association Academic All-American.
